Two Derbies to Make Up FA Cup Semi-Finals

FA Cup

Wembley will host Merseyside and London derby games following victories for Everton and Tottenham in last nights quarter final matches.

Everton beat Sunderland last night in their quarter final replay to book a dream semi-final date at Wembley against their city rivals Liverpool. Sunderland who have been resurgent under boss Martin O’Neil were out played at the Stadium of Light, eventually losing 2-0 to a Nikica Jelavic strike and an unfortunate David Vaughan own goal.

Speaking after the match Everton manager David Moyes said: “If we hadn’t won tonight, there would have been something not right.

“We created a lot of chances and we actually didn’t finish the game off at times.”

Martin O’Neil on the other hand was magnanimous in defeat saying: “Everton were better than us. They deserved to win the game. We didn’t perform well enough - we didn’t perform at all, and that’s really disappointing.”

The other match of the night was at White Hart Lane where Tottenham and Bolton were playing their re-arranged fixture after the game had been abandoned following the collapse of Fabrice Muamba.

On an emotional evening Spurs came out on top after a 3-1 victory and will now face fellow Londoners Chelsea in the semi-final.

Second half goals from Ryan Nelson, Gareth Bale and Louis Saha were enough to see Spurs through despite a late consolation from Bolton’s Kevin Davies. After the game, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp spoke excitedly about the prospect of playing Chelsea in the semi-final. “I am looking forward to it; it will be a great weekend,” he said.

“I wouldn’t like to pick a winner from either tie; Liverpool and Everton are both capable of winning the Cup.”

Redknapp added, “It is an even game; you couldn’t pick a winner between us and Chelsea.”

I wish it could be Liverpool Tototo so that we revenge on them for taking our traditional top 4 space. We haven’t even beaten them past 2 seasons, what pride it will be taking the FA Cup from them.
