Child Sex Offender Released

41-year-old Tracy Lyons, imprisoned for role in nursery sex ring, is released, serving nine months of her four-year jail sentence.

Jailed for her part in the paedophile ring organised by Colin Blanchard from Rochdale, Tracy Lyons was released from Bronzefield Prison yesterday after serving nine months of her four-year jail sentence.

As she was released halfway through a four-year sentence, the judge has ordered a five year licence on Lyons, which is three years over the standard licence.

“Serious sex offenders released from prison are closely supervised by the probation service and police. They must adhere to strict controls,” the prison service states.

Lyons admitted filming herself abusing a two-year-old boy and sending the footage to Blanchard.

Claude Knights, the director of Kidscape; an organisation that protects children, spoke exclusively to The Fresh Outlook: “It is very difficult if a robust sentence can be reduced to nine months. Predators are very devious. If a sentence like this is not satisfactory to victims, they and their families feel betrayed.”

A Ministry of Justice spokeswoman said that under the Criminal Justice Act of 2003, offenders given a determinate sentence perform part of their sentence in custody and the other half in society.

Ms Knights explained: “If the end result is this feeble, what weak message does it send? What deterrent is this?” She added: “I can only say ‘what happens next’? How robust will it be if paedophiles begin surrounding schools?”

Ms Knights wants additional support to be given to victims of child abuse and their families: “Their recovery period takes very long. No matter how many years an offender spends in prison, in no way does it amount to the years of pain for the victims.”
