Helping improve the diversity of journalists.
Widening the diversity of backgrounds within journalists isn’t an idealistic objective. We feel that diversity in journalism is crucial for a publication to achieve excellence in the field.
Our reasons for encouraging diversity:
- Reflect a broader range of life experiences.
- Provide a depth of understanding and insight into a wide range of issues essential for accurate reporting.
- Reporters from across the world would be encouraged to report from the ground, talking to individuals and organisations within the community, which provides a different perspective.
- Ability to cover a wider range of stories across the world in an in depth manner, concentrating our resources to grassroots projects by doing so.
What we are doing at The Fresh Outlook.
- Bringing together journalists from various academic fields, with or without a degree in journalism, and from different cultural backgrounds, into our newsroom in Cardiff.
- Giving work experience to young people from all walks of life, so that they may consider journalism as a profession, and see the value that they would bring to it.
- Integrating journalists from around the world through our News Network, who then feed into the our newspaper in an organic manner.
- Encouraging journalists to draw from their backgrounds and experiences to report on issues that might otherwise go amiss.
