Lethal Blasts Kill Two in Libya Capital

Multiple car bomb blasts killed two people in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, on Sunday morning as authorities arrested 32 people.

Two people were killed in the deadly attacks near the interior ministry and security buildings in the Libyan capital. The Libyan official said that they have arrested 32 members from the loyal network to the former leader Muammar Gaddafi’s connection.

Top security sources said that it was the first attack of its kind since Muammar Gaddafi’s fall last year.

The blast took place outside the military academy and left two people dead and four injured. The city’s head of security, Col Mahmoud Sherif, is believed to be blaming Gaddafi’s supporters for receiving financial banking supports from neighbouring countries.

The explosions occurred on the first day of the Eid al-Fitr festival that ends the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

There was no immediate state of accountability for the blasts. The violence remains a challenge for the government despite Libya’s interim National Transitional Council handing power to the new government after the elections in July.
