March 7, 2012 Nicola |
Film shedding light on the conflict in Uganda becomes a viral sensation, with over a million views in two days.
The organisation Invisible Children is spreading the word about Joseph Kony, the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). Their video, which has received over a million hits on YouTube in just 48 hours, highlights the work of Kony’s organisation, the LRA, and the conflict in Uganda. The film examines the allegations that the LRA is holding up to 30,000 young boys and girls as soldiers and sex slaves.
Invisible children are an activist organisation “seeking to end the conflict in Uganda and stop the abduction of children for use of child soldiers”. The organisation’s website states that its aim is to “make Kony famous. Not to celebrate him, but to raise support for his arrest and set a precedent for international justice”.
The 30 minute documentary has become extremely popular on social networking site Facebook, with 3.5 million shares registered. The film also calls on people to act on April 20 2012, aiming to spread the word over the main cities in the UK with posters and banners.
