Pakistan Tells America: Remove Your Drones
March 20, 2012 Nicola |
After reviewing its relationship to the United States, Pakistan wants American drones out and an apology for last November’s raid.
On Tuesday a Pakistani Parliamentary Commission demanded that American drones end military operations inside the country.
Airstrikes carried out by the United States have killed 24 Pakistani soldiers and severed US and Nato supply lines to Afghanistan. This has led to anger from Pakistani officials who decided to review the country’s relationship to the United States.
“The US must review its footprints in Pakistan,” the commission head Raza Rabbani said whilst reading the recommendations. “This means the cessation of drone strikes inside Pakistan.”
The commission also want the US to apologise for carrying out a raid in the country last November.
The relationship between the two countries has been strained since America captured al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden last May.
America is reportedly willing to re-build its relationship with Pakistan because it needs them in order to make a deal with insurgents in Afghanistan.
