Fighting For a Number
March 8, 2012 Nicola |
Silviu and his wife have struggled to obtain a national insurance number since arriving in the UK from the EU.
Silviu and his wife, who is 6 months pregnant, moved to the UK from the EU in order to be nearer to other relatives.
Silviu is self-employed and there are organisations who wish to contract him once he has his NI.
He has twice been refused an NI number by the Job Centre, even though he has invoices, terms and conditions for carrying out his work, flyers and business cards which prove his self-employed status.
The family’s money has run out and Cardiff businesses and people have donated food to them. Silviu has never claimed benefits from the state and does not intend to, even though he is now facing eviction on March 27.
“I want to work and provide for my family. I don’t want benefits. What benefits? I want to tell my wife we have to wait for this payment to buy shoes for our child? No. I want to work,” he previously told The Fresh Outlook.
There will be a protest outside the Job Centre on Charles Street at 12 o’clock on Monday the 12th March. Anyone wishing to support Silviu, his family and their cause is welcome to attend.
