Greater Manchester Police arrested a 31-year-old woman on Thursday after her four-year-old daughter was found dead in the family home.
A 31-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her four-year-old daughter in Moss Side, Manchester.
Chantelle Blake walked into Manchester Royal Infirmary on Thursday claiming that her daughter Kaiya Blake had died.
Officers arrived at Ms Blake’s house at 19:15 BST yesterday and recovered the body of a four-year-old girl who was believed to have been strangled.
Police have not confirmed any information as an investigation is still underway. Meanwhile, Ms Blake remains in custody for further questioning.
“Our thoughts are with the girl’s family at this extremely difficult time,” said Ch Supt Stuart Barton of the Greater Manchester Police.
He added: “We know there is lots of speculation about the identity of the young girl and the cause of death but I want to stress that as yet, we have not formally identified her and we are doing a lot of work to try and trace all her family members to inform them.”
Ch Supt Barton did confirm that they were “not looking for anyone else” in connection with the murder.
Neighbours describe the child as a “beautiful” and “bubbly” girl. One resident also added: “Chantelle is a good person and a good mum. I am just in shock.”
