Father and daughter duo Hannah and Peter Whiteley sweep the board again at the British Freestyle Kitesurfing Championships in Ayr.
Hannah Whitely and her father, Pete, have both set records with ease while claiming more individual titles for themselves at the British Freestyle Championships in Ayr, Scotland.
Hannah, 19, and Pete, 35, were competing in Round 5 of the British Kitesurfing Championships and following another exceptional performance from both they have retained their individual titles for another year.
Hannah is the current 2 x British Freestyle Champion and ExPix Team Rider. She also became the first woman ever to lift the accolade in three consecutive years. Peter is now the 4 x Senior Men’s British Freestyle Champion and becomes the first ever competitor to win any British title for five consecutive years.
“I’m so relieved and very, very happy. It’s what I’ve been working for all year and I’ve finally done it,” beamed Hannah afterwards. “As the year went on it became obvious that there was a chance for my dad and I to retain our titles but to manage it with one round still to go is just fantastic.”
“There’s so much more I want to do and hopefully now I will get the chance to push myself even further,” she added.
Dad Pete echoed the sentiments, saying: “I can’t believe it. As a family we’ve always participated in sport. It’s a good way of doing things together, but I never expected this.
“You tend to ‘lose’ your children when they reach their teenage years as they become less interested in family activities but that’s not the case for us. It’s not often that as a father you still have something in common with your 19-year-old daughter, but we’re very lucky that we share the same hobbies.”
The final round of the British Championships takes place in Blackpool next month and now both competitors can go in to it relaxed, knowing that their titles are safe for another 12 months.
