Mercedes-Benz get Louisiana Superdome Naming Rights

Mercedes-Benz USA sign a 10-year agreement for naming rights to the Louisiana Superdome, plus sponsorship ties with New Orleans Saints.

The main sponsorship benefits with American Football’s Saints include being named as the official and exclusive vehicle of the franchise. The stadium will now be known as the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The sponsorship comes during a good period for the stadium as they have recently been named as the host of the 2012 Bowl Championship Series (BCS) final, one of the major events during the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) College Football season, as well as the 2012 Men’s Final Four (the College Basketball equivalent) and the 2013 Super Bowl.

This is the first time the naming rights have been sold off for the stadium, which has just undergone a $336m renovation, while it is also the first time the German car manufacturing giants have obtained naming rights to any major stadium in the US.

“I am thrilled to be able to announce a winning and long-term partnership between the Saints, Mercedes-Benz and now the Mercedes-Benz Superdome,” New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson said of the landmark deal. “The investment being made by a premier international brand who believes in ‘the best or nothing’ is a tremendous compliment to all of those who worked so hard to make the stadium what it is today.”

The Saints came out of the horror of Hurricane Katrina that decimated the city in 2005 strongly and triumphed against the odds to lift their only Super Bowl title in 2009.

They have started the 2011 season strongly with a 3-1 record and sit top of the National Football Conference South Division.
