Bexleyheath Attack: Woman Charged With Murder

Nicole Edgington has been charged with murdering a 59-year-old woman in Bexleyheath, London. She will appear before magistrates later today.

A 39-year-old woman will appear in court on Tuesday charged with the murder of a woman, 59, who was stabbed on a busy south-east London high street.

Nicola Edgington allegedly attacked Mrs Hodkin in Bexleyheath on Monday morning.

Police say that Mrs Hodkins, who was a law firm accounts manager, was stabbed with a 12-inch knife as she was walking to work.

It is believed the knife was stolen from a local butcher’s shop.

The mother-of-two was pronounced dead at 08:41 GMT and a post-mortem is due to take place throughout the day.

Nicola Edgington was arrested by the Metropolitan Police shortly after the incident and will appear before magistrates later today.

The Greenwich woman is also charged with attempted murder, after a 23-year-old woman was attacked at a nearby bus station moments before the fatal stabbing.

The second victim, who has not been named, is said to be recovering at home.

The woman “attacked a 23-year-old female victim, inflicting minor injuries”, said Det Supt Keith Niven. “At the scene of the incident she was disarmed and then she made her way further along the Broadway where she entered a commercial premises and obtained a second knife.

“It was with this knife that she then attacked her second victim some short distance away. Sadly the victim died of her injuries.”

Ms Hodkins’ family have not yet released a statement; however, friends and colleagues began paying tribute to the 59-year-old shortly after her death.

“She was a very kind lady,” said a neighbour. “She was a grandmother and a mother … Her son told me that it was her who had been killed. It’s terrible.”

This woman had previously stabbed to death her mother in Lewis in 2005. Why was she allowed out of institution to kill again? And she had also asked to be sectioned the day before she killed

Vicky Heffernon says:

@Jon Dedman I was quite alarmed when I read about her killing her mother six years ago. I too wonder how she has come to be allowed to walk the streets again to reoffend resulting in the horrific and tragic death of this poor innocent woman. The justice system in this country is absolutely atrocious.

Cabby says:

Oops she’s done it again. Now that it a surprise. why was she walking the street she only killed her mother 6 years ago. This time some poor random stranger was killed.

Yvonne Ezinne says:

I know Nicole and when she has her medication she is a lovely helpful caring girl, she is ill and when she realised she was becoming unstable she did her best and as reported, begged those people in authority that could help her,to help her and they let her down badly. I am not condoning her attacks in any wayand my heart aches sorely for her victims and their loved ones and I am as shocked and appalled as the next person, but please try to understand this is not something she did with clear comprehensible thinking, unlike peadophiles etc. who prethink their actions she struck out as her confused mind instructed her to, even though she had pleaded for help and was terrified when rejected. I agree the system is at fault and these scenarios must be looked at again very closely but I ask you to have some pity for Nicole as well and thank God its not you or any of your family facing these problems today. Thankyou
