The Best of Paris Fashion Week

As Paris Fashion Week 2011 draws to a close, The Fresh Outlook looks at all the highlights from the week.

Promoting France’s fashion talents to the world, Paris Fashion Week has successfully presented an interesting programme of official catwalks, after parties, and off-calendar events.

Running from September 27 until October 5, Paris Fashion Week has offered a fascinating show that went beyond the catwalks with Parisian Paule Ka presenting his collections on models in his rue St. Honoré store; with his shop recreating a Hawaiian mood with palm fronds and lobsters on the floor.

Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton was acclaimed by the national and international press with her fashion line reaching for nature and the ocean and her models becoming, according to Grazia Magazine, “strangely beautiful mermaid creatures”.

Chanel was one of the main brands of the fashion week with an underwater world coordinated by Karl Lagerfeld.

Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton designer, closed the French fashion event with a 48-model carousel where clothes took the shades of Ladurée macaroons and included colours from lemon to apricot, vanilla and pistachio. Speaking to the Guardian about where he had taken the inspiration from for such an original show, he said that he was inspired by the Tuileries gardens’ famous carousel.

“It’s just so beautiful, and so … Paris,” he said “I am a typical New Yorker about Paris, a total Francophile,” he smiled.

“I wanted today to be a place of pure enjoyment, gentleness, joie de vivre and love. There is such joy in Parisian fashion.”
